Being of Service

In service to others, I serve the spirit of God within them. In service to my own spiritual growth, I serve the spirit of God within me.

he spirit of the one God, Power, and Presence, is in us and those around us: people, animals, and plants. A desire that God kindled in all creation is to be useful. Some may fulfill this desire through feeding the poor, serving in hospice care, working at animal shelters, ushering at church, or growing food and sharing the harvest with neighbors.

However we choose to serve, it is the same God within all of us. We are connected. Helping one helps all. Likewise, working on internal spiritual growth changes the world. The central circle of the Unity “wings” was originally depicted as the Earth; the wings represented that each of us who pursues spiritual enlightenment raises the whole world.

I Chronicles 28:20, “Then David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed; for the Lord God is with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.”
